The Scene:
In the car. Driving home from T-Ball. Just now.
Totally out of the blue.
The Conversation:
Five-year old Savannah: Mommy? Did Adam and Eve die?
Me: Oh ya. Long, long, long, long time ago!
Savannah: Why did they?
Me: Well, everyone dies. This life is just a short time we spend here on earth. Then we go live with Heavenly Father in heaven forever!
(In case you couldn't tell, I was thinking how I could turn this into a teaching moment. Because that's what we do.)
Savannah: Everyone dies?
Me: Yup. Even Mommy and Daddy will die someday. But don't worry, not for a long time.
Savannah: *pause* But who will make us dinner? *pause* I can make toast.
It's good to know I'll be missed.

That is funny. At least she is happy to help out where she can. I hope you teach her how to make more than toast (just in case). ha ha ha
Conversations with children are so delightful! I love what a problem solver she is. :)
Hmmmm, she is wise beyond her years.
Incredibly.
You should teach her some macaroni and cheese skills before you kick the bucket.
yes i agree with the mac n cheese thing. I knew how to cook mac n cheese and top ramen and grilled cheese when i went to college. Vital skills. You really don't need more knowledge than that.
So glad you wrote that one down cause it is so way cute!
Smiles.
The important things in life . . . food! :)
we've had this conversation with our kids.
our oldest (6) says he'll take care of his brother (2-1/2) but he's not sure if he can manage his 2 sisters.. he says he'll to call gma/boppa (just minutes from our house) to come take them.. 3 kids is just TOO much for him :)
So deep and thoughtful.
Ha ha! Pass the toast!
well, at least you know that there will be toast for dinner if you die. better stock up on jelly.
LOVE this! Cutest story ever :)
Oh how sweet...those conversations put a grin on my face and warm my heart.
How sweet! I love toast smothered in melted butter, maybe I can come over for dinner! :)
Sounds like your toast-making skills will definitely be missed! Very cute. ;)
My youngest (6) is determined to never move out because if she does, who will take care of her? She has plans to bring her husband here someday, too, so I can take care of both of them.
haha! gotta love the way they process the important stuff.
Oh, I love it!! It sounds just like my girls! They only miss the important things in life!
Mmmm Yummy..toast. She has learned everything she needs to about growing up. Hee hee!
I'm in a panic. All my kids can make toast now. I might as well lay down and die now.
Hee hee.
This also makes me think of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. As a child, I couldn't see what was wrong having toast for Thanksgiving dinner. Savannah can come cook for me when the holiday comes around.
Toast?
i bet she puts chocolate or nutella on it to forever remind her of you.
:)
Love this conversation Serene!
You ROCK!!
that's pretty cute! She is so beyond her years!
Resourceful girl you've got there!
=D
Didn't you know... Dinner is the most important part of life? Too Cute.
As long as you've got toast, what more does one need?
Cute convo
Aw, cute!
At least she's prepared. And, at least she knows what you're really good for.
My kids wouldn't even care if I died, since I never make them dinner anyway!
That's so funny and cute. Good thing she can make toast.
Have a good day...:)
haha! ah, that's cute :)
Clearly, you are working to hard at making dinner--just do toast from now on.
