The Birthday Trial

Seeing how it is my birthday, it makes this week my official birthday week.

Because I believe in such things.

Just like I believe in Easter Bunny. I'm afraid if I stop believing, Cadbury mini eggs would cease to exist.

Don't judge me.

Anyway, as has been brought to light and discussed in some detail on this blog, I am often accused of looking a good ten years younger than my actual age. I have pondered much upon this mystery.

And now, thanks to be sister-in-law, the cause has been found.

And so, I place before you, the jury, my evidence.

This explains everything!

Surely, you good people of the jury must see the truth of this matter! I think this is just cause to add more chocolate to my diet.

If that's possible.

Have I mentioned lately that I've gained six pounds?

Anyway, in the past year or so, I have been accused of looking anywhere from 13 years old, to being fresh out of high school. And so, I have come before you today, with embarrassing evidence in hand, to see if this is truly the case.

Please examine Evidence 13A which features my older sister Jenny, and friends Sheri and Mindy, with me, smack dab in the middle, at MGM studios.

This is me, at age 13. And yes, I am wearing socks with my sandals, tapered jeans and a floral shirt. Because that's how I rolled back then. I knew nothing of fashion. Nothing.

Exhibit 13B, in which you see me, sporting a new hat from my good buddy Seth, my brother lovingly wrapped up, thoughtfully by me of course, for my friend Sara Lyn. Because at the time, they liked each other.

Oh, and my baby brother... in his underwear.

Anyhow... (awkward) I just wanted to show you all what a thoughtful and generous soul I was.

And now, let us fast forward about a year and view exhibit 14A which features me and Elin, a wonderful lady I use to work for, on a trip to Epcot.

Again, this picture was chosen so you could see my amazing sense of style.

But more importantly, the shoes. Yes, look at the shoes.

They are not mine. They belonged to my friend Daniel. Male, same height as me, but skinnier. He and I wore the same shoes size. I didn't have any nice tennis shoes to wear that day, so he let me borrow his.

Because that how I rolled back then. And I knew nothing of fashion. Nothing.

Exhibit 14B, features me and my friend Heather at her 16th birthday party. We drove two hours to get to her house.

I secretly think I was invited because she liked my brother. It's just the way it is, you know?

So tell me, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do I still look 13 or 14 years old?

Be honest.

Hold nothing back.

Okay, I take that back. Maybe hold some things back. My ego can only take so much.

This trial will have a recess until tomorrow morning in which we discuss evidence pieces 15 and 16.

I'm just amazed at how many of your friends had a thing for your brother... not to mention that he'd let you wrap him up...

And seeing as I've recently been accused of being my son's girlfriend AND sent back to class at the intermediate school... I don't have any room to judge on the age thing... at least with you they don't get close and change their minds saying "sorry ma'am"

Hmm, I don't think so.
I see baby face in the 13 year old pic...
And a more adult face in the older one...
What are you now 26? 27?
24? 25?
Oh heck!
You look great!!
Those other people are just jealous. Keep eating chocolate...that will SURE help..and make you happy too!

Sue said...

I'm not sure if you look 13, but you sure don't look like the mother of four kids!

I used to look younger than my age, too. Unfortunately, the lack of chocolate (due to many diets) has caught up with me.

If only I had known the secret...

;)

Happy birthweek!!! However, I have to quibble with you on one point. Back then, "sandals, tapered jeans and a floral shirt" WERE fasion

Lisa said...

Serene, I'm sorry. You don't look as good as you did back then. You look WAY FREAKING BETTER. Seriously, chocolate, child bearing and age have treated you like a fine wine and wheel of cheese.

MommyJ said...

Braden has a point, but fashion back then was NOT fashion. How did we ever, ever, EVER look in the mirror and think tapered jeans were doing anyone any favors? I hope you have a fantastic birthday week...

I remember receiving a pair of jeans so tapered that I could not get my ankles through them. I cried. I think that was 1995?

Anyway, you do not look 13.

Polly Blevins said...

You look 17ish but back when you were 13, you looked 10. Hey, I wouldn't mind that at all. People ask me if my sister (7 years older than I am) is younger or older. The fact that they ask that does not say much for me.

Nah, you look twelve.
Awesome fashion sense of a 12 year old as well.

I think you look just as you should. Beautiful! And now I want chocolate- thanks a lot.

Cherie said...

Well I would say you don't look 13 but you sure are young!
How many candles ARE YOU putting on your cake this year?
Happy Birthday!

I think you look too smart to be a teenager still. 23? 24? Yeah - like you're not completely new to the ways of the world.

A mom of 4? No freakin' way. You make it look easy.

Happy Birthday, girl! You look great any age...and in any style...sort of!

That is seriously so funny! But if you think your fashion sense was bad did you see how hot those Jean overalls on your friend were??

SHOOT ME NOW! HOT!

That is a good idea on the chocolate.

Gina said...

Yeah, definitely not 13. You look my age-ish. Mid twenties.

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

Talk about some serious fashion faux pas! However, I wholeheartedly agree that a week long birthday celebration is exactly what everybody needs.

No only your brother in his underwear, but with his hands in his underwear. Let's hope he has grow out of that!

Your sense of style has got better with age, as have you! Happy Birthday!

I think you inherited my "youth" genes...which no longer exist in my body by-the-way...However, I remembered a cute story when I was "19"... I was a newly wed...doing laundry at a laundry-mat...and some 12 - 13 year old kid was in there helping his mom with their laundry...All through our conversation...I knew he was "hitting" on me...(why he didn't notice the ring on my finger....) Anyway, just as I was finishing up...I informed him that I was married...and "19"...I wish I had a camera then...it was a look I wish I could have framed forever! (smile)

13? No. Fresh out of high school? Yes. Lucky.

Happy Birthday!!!

Oh and about the chocolate thing? I agree. Yeah, I think I really will have that last piece of chocolate cake. At 6:08 in the morning. For my beauty routine.

So far the picture with Heather looks the most like you today...but I will come back and see pictures of 15 and 16 have to offer.

The Martos Fudge said...

Happy birthweek... I have to say you do not look 13, because you look mature. You features now are those of a woman, and not a girl... But you are even more beautiful now, Hope you have a great week.

Sara Lyn said...

Sorry I missed your actual birthday! I was traveling. Is that a good enough excuse? I did think about you though. You looked gorgeous then and you look gorgeous now. And more than anything, you are FUN!

P.S. And to the person who wondered about all the girls with a thing for your brother, may I remind her that he had a thing for them, too. :)
