Kiddy Kounsel - What Do Moms Do All Day?

You know you're a blogger when....

you actually feel a little guilty for not taking a picture of the large, shattered glass bowl, compliments of your three-year old, that coated a big part of your living room floor, just so you can share it on your blog.

Seriously, I've been doing this waaayyyy too long.

Anyway, so a question was submitted, (after I effectively begged for one on Facebook, I'm not above begging) by Emily. "What do moms do all day?"

I was curious to see what my kids would say. I was hoping for something extremely hilarious. Unfortunately, instead of being funny, they simply divulged some of my secrets.

Alayna (age 3) - Clean uuuuuuuuuup... go to chuuuuuuuurrrrrch.....

Jacob (age 5) - Clean up, get food. Ummm... * big mischievous grin appears on face* Be nice and let me play on the kindle!  ..... Can I play on the kindle mommy? Hehehe.

Joseph - (age 6) - Go to the store all day.

(Hey, in my defense, I would like to say that I most certainly do NOT go to the store all day! Some days it feels like I haven't left my house in weeks! Although I guess as the mom, I do do all the shopping around here. Okay fine, I concede his point.)

Savannah (age 8) - Umm... work? Well, almost all day. They have to feed the kiiiiiids, they have to make the beeeeeeeeds. And they're usually at the computer. Oh, and sometimes they read books.

(Oh, busted.)

If I must be completely honest, I actually felt kind of bad about their answers. Not one mentioned "play with us" or "do fun things" or anything like that.

I realize that children kind of have "short memory". Whatever has happened in the last couple of days is usually foremost in their minds over what happened last week.

So with the school back in session, me trying to do three other side projects, and us trying to sell our house (ah yes, I forgot to mention that little tidbit) things have just been a little crazy around here and unfortunately, I haven't exactly been a bright ray of sunshine lately.

I don't think I've danced around the kitchen while belting out some obnoxious song in weeks!

So, I have decided to make a conscious effort to spend a little more time having fun with my children.

Guess those kids offered advise without even knowing it.

Dang, they're good!

I would challenge you to ask your kids "what do moms do all day". Chances are their answers will reflect on your behavior. It's an amazing way to discover their point of view and take note of things you might need to change.

They're worth the effort.

Keep sending in the questions! My kids have all the answers.

At least, that's what they tell me.

I thought it was not long ago that you got your house. Put in flower beds ect.I do wonder why sell now.

I know right! LOL! I do love my flower beds. :D We bought our home as a starter home, planning on only staying 3-5 years. We've always wanted something with a little more land. We have our eye on a foreclosure home that sits on an acre. If it works out, great! If not, we'll stay here a little longer before trying again. Either way will be fine.

Kids really do have short-term memory. I still believe you're a nice, fun, happy, AWESOME mom - even if you do spend ALL day at the store! ;)

Best wishes on the house-selling! I'll keep you in my prayers. :)

I could totally hear their answers in my head! That was too funny!

You're a great mom. Don't worry.

I think they have figured Momhood out. Perhaps you should give them honorary degrees and allow them to take over for a day? ;-)

"Take care of babies? All kinds of work. Make lunches. Take naps all day. That's it." - Jenna (nearly 5)
"Go to the grocery store?" - Adam (3)

In my defense, I haven't had a nap in weeks!
