Joggers and Over-achievers

Do you ever look back on something you've done and think, "Wow, that was... really dumb."

This morning, 4:49am.

Do you know what kind of people are out and about at that unsightly hour? Psycho people, like... joggers and over-achievers, that's who. (Oh... I'm just teasing because I'm jealous)

Okay fine. And people who work to help accommodate said psycho people.

So why was I, who is neither a jogger or an over-achiever... though I suppose the psycho part is arguable, doing up at such a time?

I was on my way to the store... in all my freshly-rolled-out-of-bed-glory.

I've never seen Walmart look so barren.

And why in heaven's name was I going to the store to stinkin' early?

Well, we were completely out of life's basic necessities.

Otter pops and ice cream.

Oh, and diapers for Claira. I suppose those were important too, considering we discovered we were clean out last night.

But that still doesn't explain WHY I was there so early!

Well, two reasons. First, I just... really, really, really didn't feel like taking all five kids with me just to get diapers.

True, I have made such sacrifices for chocolate, but diapers? Pish... totally unimportant.

Some of you might not understand but, the summer experience of taking all kids with me to all places you ever go is starting to wear on me... just a bit. It drives people to do insane things... like go to the store at five in the morning.

And also, because Hubby CLAIMED he was going into work early. But really, I think it was an evil ploy to get the covers all to himself. The only reason he was out the door at 7:30am was because Claira was crying for a bottle and I was in the shower!

*humph* I could have slept in a little longer after all! He owes me... big time.

Well when I got back I decided to pretend for an hour or two that I was a responsible adult.

I spent some time with my scriptures then did something I haven't done in a long time.

I even dug down deep into my health arsenal for moral support.

Then I... well I... went all psycho and... exercised! *gasp* I know right! Maybe those joggers and over-achievers are onto something here!

Or... maybe not.

'Cause now that I've blogged about nothing of consequence and all the kids are awake, I'm ready for bed!

I totally understand the lengths one will go to to avoid taking all the kids to the store.

Boy, do I know that feeling. When I get up anywhere in the 5's, I feeling like it's bedtime by mid-morning.

I'm a jogger, and I know that this is certainly the best time of the day! It sounds like you don't claim to be an 'over achiever' but I think all of us who like a minute to ourselves with little ones? Must like this time of the day, it's a time to get something done or nothing but by OURSELVES for just a couple of minutes.

Try it again, you might like it! Listen, do you hear it? There is nothing to hear this time of the morn...YES!

Marlece - I hope you know I was teasing about the joggers. I really do have a healthy respect for them, mostly because I wish I was more dedicated like them! :D

But you're right. I little peace and quiet it so calming...

Hi Serene, I've been blog stalking you for a while. I can't remember how I came across your blog, but I absolutely love it. You make me smile almost daily. I can't help but think we'd be great friends. You are funny and honest and have a darling family. Plus I can tell my kids would love your kids. And you love chocolate. Anyway - just wanted to say hello. And also say I wish I was one of those over-achiever morning people. I hate mornings. I wish I didn't. But nice work getting up, getting to the store, AND exercising. That definitely qualifies you for the over-achiever award :) P.S. I know I'm a few days late, but I hope you kept those high heels. They are darling. Plus you got a great deal on them!

I definitely am with you on not wanting to take all five kids on errands. I can't wait until one of them is old enough to baby sit the rest and on that day, I will do back handsprings out of joy.

I am so there with you on taking the kids. I have 4 active boys and it is hard to drag them all around, but I have to say the part of this post that made me feel the best was all the dust on your dashboard. I know, I know maybe that isn't something I should have picked up on, but mine is always dusty. It feels like a never ending task to keep up on the house, yard, cars, and when neighbor kids get in my van and ask me if I know how to clean it makes me feel well a little blah. So your blog and pictures really bring a smile to my face, and I remember that it is ok not to be perfect. Thanks for sharing your life with all of us.

Emily - Ahhhh! Thanks girlfriend! Truly! I'm so glad you commented! I have turned into one of those terrible bloggers who is so bad at reading other peoples blog and responding to comments, but I do read EVERY comment!
Yea... I'm not much of a morning person these days. Was I ever? I can't remember that far back! LOL!

P.S. Yes, I did keep the heels and wore them to church on Sunday. I got LOTS of compliments! Made me happy. :D

Stacie - I have to say that your comment had me literally laughing out loud! You and my husband would make good friends. He's always commenting on how dusty the dashboard is. LOL!

And yes, holy smokes I've been feeling a bit hilter-skilter lately as I look around. Everything is a disaster!! I just need a magic wand... badly. I've had neighbor kids also comment on certain messes in my house. At that point I grab a cookie and tell myself there are only two kids in that family and that at least I managed to get a load of laundry done. :D
