Recipe Round-up

Oui... *sigh, dramatically throwing self down on couch, latching leg over the back, covering face with pillow*

Uheye emmm iunnn shaatch ao kukeng thiuonk wide nuwww!

*removing pillow* I said, I am in such a cooking thi-dunk right now! Seriously, my desire to cook borders on non-existent and willful disregard.

Blast it all, it's so bad. This always happens when I get focused on doing something like reading or crafting. In this case it's been crafting. That's all I've been doing for days now and I am covered in hot glue gun burns and needle pokes. And I think I'm going cross-eyed! No seriously, I really think I am because right now you're looking at me all funny.

Oh. Ohhhhh....... not THOSE kinds of needle pokes for pete's sake! Yeesh.....

Anyhow, my point being, cooking has been brutal this week, but hey, at least I tried two new recipes!

Now that says something about my character, not that I'm one to boast... too often.

Pizza Rolls

I'm always looking to try out new pizza recipes since the kids love pizza so much, so I was excited about this one.

I made it, I cooked it, I ate it. Then the kids ate it. Eww, none of us liked it! It took me a minute to figure out why. The middle wasn't cooked! I actually had to cook it twice as long as the time given before it was done all the way and by then, the kids wouldn't eat it anymore.

This concerned me because I had made three pizza rolls. Thankfully they ate it the next day and loved it! Gobbled it right up after school and were asking for more. So I guess it turned out alright in the end.

Taste: 4 out of 5 stars
Ease: 4 out of 5 stars
Time: 2.5 out of 5 stars (you have to let the frozen dough thaw)

Crockpot Barbecue Chicken

I know I know, everyone has cooked chicken with BBQ sauce before. Sure I have too but truthfully, it has been, well, years probably. So I gave this a go.

Except it was about 4:30pm when I realized I needed to start dinner. Obviously not the best time to start the crock pot. So I used the recipe and threw my frozen chicken in a 9x13 pan and cooked it at 350* for an hour. Tasted great but the chicken was really tough!

Note to self: Actually use the crockpot next time, or be sure to thaw the chicken first.

Taste: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Ease: 4 out of 5 stars
Time: 3 out of 5 stars (unless using crockpot)

So there you have it. Not even a dessert recipe! Laaaaaaammme...... The chocolate chips were tasty though! Ahem... not that I ate a whole bag... too fast, honest!

I did however try a little tidbit I came across.

Our dishwasher has been getting kind of nasty. Build up and what-naught, hard water and all. But I became truly alarmed when the plastic dishes started coming our smelly. Ya, smelly!! SO gross. So I tried out this trick.

How to clean your dishwasher

And what do ya know? The dishwasher looks LOADS cleaner (no pun intended) and smells much, much nicer! YAH! No more stinky clean dishes! And after reading through all the comments there are a couple other options you can try. I also think I'll start washing each load with half a cup of vinegar. That's suppose to help with the hard water.

Not that that has anything to do with food. Well, it kind of does, but not really.

Whatever.

Anyway, apparently I need to start paying to use the linkys and I'm just too cheap to fork out the $2 a month. So be sure to share all your recipe links in the comments while I figure out what to do about this linky issue. Maybe there's another kind I just haven't discovered yet.

In the meantime, label me lame.

I can live with that.

A great product for cleaning your dishes IN your dishwasher - and also the dishwasher itself and the drains and such is Lemi Shine. I have a snippet about it on my blog: http://donandkorine.blogspot.com/search/label/Lemi%20Shine. Check it out. I use it with every cycle now and it's made a HUGE difference

Out here in Cali the powers that be have outlawed phosphates in dishwasher detergent. It has made dishwashers useless!! All the dishes come out with white gook on them, and anything metal is pitted and icky.

So my folks did some research and found an online site where you can purchase the missing phosphate ingredient to add to you current detergent. Earl and I tried it and for a while, it worked. Then we discovered the Electrosol PowerBall things. It's a little block of blue and white with a red ball on top. Each are individually wrapped in the box we got from Costco and they have made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!! I love them. I don't have to worry about rewashing dishes. The little red ball is supposed to be the rinse aid and it does its job well.

Well worth a try if you have a Costco or Sam's nearby.

The biggest problem with chicken is that people OVERCOOK it. Some phobia about it or something. Chicken is done as long as it's not pink inside. Try 20 minutes next time. Cut one open and check. It may need another five minutes. Or maybe it only takes fifteen minutes.
