I need a vacation from getting back from vacation!

The day after returning from a trip is always a little crazy.

You have a blast on your vacation, playing right up until it's time to go home. Then you wake up, rather unwillingly the next day, usually after only a few hours of sleep, to realize you have a stack of overdue library items you need to get back asap!

Because you're getting tired of single handedly supporting the library through late fees.

Then, since you haven't gone grocery shopping in over two weeks, you find your cupboards are pretty bare and thank your lucky stars that you have enough milk and cereal to feed to your kids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Then you find that your daughter's t-ball game is really two hours earlier than you had been thinking it was all weekend. And since there are only two games left, and you haven't been to any of them, you decide you need to go to at least one before the games are over. So instead of unpacking all your junk that was just tossed into the living room, you rifle through the pockets searching for essentials, like deodorant, knowing no one would be happy if you didn't a least contemplate using it, leaving everything else there to deal with another time.

Then you haul your five kids to the t-ball game only to see about two minutes of it since you're trying to keep track of three mobile children and a stationary baby.

By the time the game is over, you reflect on your great and mighty wisdom for only putting your oldest child in this year, and thanking her coach profusely for being willing to pick her up and bring her home this whole month.

Then you make the mistake of taking your tired and hungry children into the library with you. By the time the kids are done picking out what they want, the librarian hates you. You can just tell. But you do your best not to yell too loud at the three oldest ones while carrying the baby-laden car seat and quite literally dragging your screaming and crying two-year old back out to the car knowing that everyone you walk by is passing judgement on you.

By the time you get home you're drenched in sweat, exhausted, wishing you could have a vacation from your post vacation experience.

Ah well, what can you do.

We had such a blast this past weekend, I wish we could have stayed longer. It was good for all of us to get away for a couple of days.

I have a gazillion pictures to rifle through so hopefully I can get around to writing all about it soon.

In the meantime, just know that anytime you think I might say or do something a little odd, that I learned from the best.

I mean, come on. Do you know anyone who plays with their cows?

I do.

I couldn't quite convince my mom to whoop and holler like she was riding a bucking bronco, but come on, at least she was willing to go for a ride!

And that, my friends, is what makes my parents so stinking awesome.

And someday, I hope to be just like them.

Except you'll never catch my playing with cows and letting them slobber in my hair.

'Cause that's just gross.

Oh what can I say that could possibly do this post justice? This was fabulous! You're such a fantastic writer. You know what you should do to those people who are, quote, passing judgement on you?
Raise an eyebrow as if to say "whatta you lookin at?" Then if they look down and purse their lips as if to say "Nothing," you smile wryly and narrow your eyes as if to say "that's what I thought."
And lift your head, straighten your shoulders, and walk proudly out of that library because babe, you're a rockstar mommy!

What cool parents! I think you are well on your way to becoming just like them.

And I suspect THAT is a big compliment!

Love those pictures! I just got back from vacation and had a similar, but less kid-filled, experience. I'm ready for another break! This one at home, of course. :) Glad you made it!

Yup, it's hard to get back into the swing of things after a fun filled vacation!!

But what a great daughter you are letting the grandparents see and play with their Grandkids. It's a dream come true I bet they are having withdraws already, I know I'd be!

SOME librarians hate that. Others give sympathetic (and grateful or sorrowful it's not us) smiles. Just saying. :-)

Great pictures. That looks like one of those slides that hurts when it is sunny.

bah! Ignore the looks, ignore the thoughts that people are judging! Here is the simple truth: #1 Screaming toddlers are only reminding everyone they are 2 years old... #2 People are not negatively judging you they are just thinking, 'Wow! 5 kids and Mom is still sane! AWESOME MOM' and #3 Goddess Divine, you are doing fine:) Somedays are rougher, some moments harder, but other moments make it all worth it.

Having just got back from a 10 day vacation, I know exactly what you mean. Not to mention, your house is like 200 degrees when you get home and something smells strange.

Funny pictures!

I always cringe when my friends say that they go to the library every week for story time. Uhm..wait, do kids actually SIT there for storytime? I wouldn't know;) I have to be in a very very good mood to do that. In fact, last month my husband came home and told me that he took the kids to the library and I stared in awe and said, "are you serious? how did it go?" He just stared back.

And we have a 3 week overdue library fine as a bonus. Ha!

Ooh! Ooh! Can my librarian me post another comment? Yes!! Kids sit still in storytime--and it amazes me, too! There are a couple who love to wonder about and such, but they have never distracted me during a storytime. In my new job, the room is huge and I've had 40-50 in a storytime--loved every bit of it! The dads there seemed a little clueless on how to handle it, but they were there and I couldn't be happier. I look at it as something you can get out of the house for, have your kids entertained, and it's FREE! Plus, I LOVE getting to have that time with the kids. As long as you don't drop your kids off and expect me to baby-sit them, then we're all good. (Because I am under the No Touch rule unless they're in deathly harm's way, and it makes taking care of kids rather hard.) And...

What? Oh. Did I get carried away? Sorry. Just wanted to let all of you moms with kids (of all ages) know that we librarians--especially those of us over the kids--want all of you in all of your numbers, volumes, fashion statements, and missing patches of hair to come!

That is hilarious!
I am glad your parents are into the cows. Hopefully they don't plan on putting it in the freezer, if you know what I mean.

Vacations are exhausting.

Ya, they built a wing on our library in my honor.
