It's Worth It

I was exhausted beyond exhaustion. I was bone weary. Every action took conscious effort and I would have given much to be able to crawl into bed for the day.

But with three kids still at home all day, naps don't exist in my world.

I walked through the kitchen, not caring that cracker crumbs and cheerios stuck to my feet. I stepped over books, crayons, paper, coloring  books, clothes and shoes, knowing these things needed to be taken care of, but hardly finding the strength to care.

By the time Savannah came home from school, I was done for. I threw myself onto the bed, not planning on sleeping, but having every intention of vegging out like a head a lettuce.

A bag of carrots.

A sack of potatoes.

Or whatever vegetable you can find in my house.

As I lay there, little voices from the living room turned into eruptions of hysterical laughter. I knew I should have been concerned, but that took energy. So with Savannah home to help keep an eye on things, I could only hope nothing bad was happening.

Next thing I hear is, "Go tell mom to get the camera!"

Uh........

Savannah walks in and tries to get me up and to bring the camera. Instead, I simply pointed to it and told her to take the pictures.

The laughter and giggling continued for quite a while, and I just couldn't help but smile at the sound. There is something about them all playing together that just fills the soul.

Savannah came back to show me her pictures, she was so proud of herself.

Eh, clean laundry is overrated anyway.

And despite the bad days, these are the small and simple moments that remind me, it's so worth it.

Ah, for those final days before baby arrives. The exhaustion is not fun, and bending over to pick things up has become an Olympic event. My best advice other than to do the bare minimum is to grab an empty laundry basket or box and put it in the middle of the floor in a room you want cleaned. Then tell the little ones during the day that everyone who picks up things off the floor and puts them in the box gets chocolate chips when the room is done.

Another thing I've done before - after getting a basket or box ready I get on my hands and knees and crawl from room to room picking up with the kids. I don't try to get back up off the floor and this eliminates that bending over trouble. I'm sure it's considered exercise or helps get labor going in some way...right?

Very cute!
You should get your kids disposable cameras for Mothers Day and let them go to work. It would probably make you laugh hysterically to see what they come up with.

Aha! Another reason not to fold the laundry! Thanks so much.

I love it! Kids are amazing. Too bad not all people realize what joy they are missing out on.

But we do!
