What we REALLY do on Sunday afternoons

Growing up in Florida doesn't exactly provide the opportunity for certain activities, such as skiing, building snowmen, or sliding down snow-covered hills in a sled.

But as kids, my siblings and I did our very best to make do with what we had to work with.

We did things like swim, build mud forts, and use our sleeping bags to slid down the stairs.

Pish, who needs snow?

And some traditions are meant to be passed on. I am not ashamed to admit that I taught my kids how to do this, although I am sure I'll end up horrifying some poor, unsuspecting soul out there who thrives on propriety.

The first few times the kids did this, I laughed so hard my cheeks were hurting.

If I wasn't pregnant, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'd be taking a turn or two down those stairs myself!

Propriety be hanged. Whoever said kids get to have all the fun?

Your children are blessed with the kind of mom who knows how to make life an adventure.

They are lucky.

I wish my boys could do that on our stairs but our stairs are cursed...seriously...lol

I grew up in Phoenix. We used twin sized air mattresses instead of sleeping bags.

I also was 19 before I realized that not everybody knows what ice blocking is. Apparently, people in northern states go "sledding"... whatever that means.

We did laundry baskets. I wonder why sleeping bags never came to mind....

You know my mother was hrmph years old just a few years ago when she rode the mattress down the stairs. I suppose we never get too old for it. Or maybe we do when we have to worry about our bones breaking....

I've never done that. Ever. How dare you let your own kids do that! The danger! The injuries! The horror!

I'll take propriety, thankyouverymuch.

(Obviously my flavor, says the mother who lets her kids dance naked daily.)

Oh, I love it. The kids are having a great time!! What a wonderful idea!! You could also try it on a matt or two going down the stairs like a sled.

I haven't seen sleeping bags either, my kids haven't even tried laundry baskets. I am sure if they saw this they would want to live at your house for sure!

Thanks for the rice crispy treats, I am pretty sure I ate them all myself!

How fun! We did something similar the other day- we made a slide out of foam mats and the stairs.
