Independence can be hazardous

You know, I'm all about encouraging independence in my children, really, I am.

And I want them to try and figure things out for themselves and use their little minds, really, I do.

But sometimes... sometimes there are situations when certain children who will not be named *Alacoughyna* take this independence and problem solving thing a little too far.

Caught red-handed!

If you knew what this little girl what capable of doing with a simple container of yogurt, you would understand my feeble attempts at keeping them out of her reach. (view a sampling of her handi-work)

The kitchen always loses, and apparently, so do I

This little one has helped me understand the reason for the existence of fridge locks.

Now, I wonder if there's a way we can bolt our bar stools to the floor....

I have to smile every time I read one of your posts about Alayna. Just because my Sophia was (is!) just like her. She's gotten better as she gets a little older, but boy does she give me a run for my parenting money!

She is so mischievious!

She is a clever one! I like how you have the fruit and arms reach but that's obviously not what she wants!

In our house it is milk, not yogurt. We finally got a fridge lock when Asher tried to pour himself a glass of milk and half a gallon wound up on the table. My husband told me I win for the year for buying the lock. Good luck:)

I'm pretty sure my sister used bungee cord to attach all of her kitchen chairs together so they couldn't be removed from the table. I used bungee cord to hold one of my twins into the high chair. He could wiggle his way out of everything else. You do what you got to do, you know?

She is such a little vixen, isn't she? And so darned cute!

I've heard you say this before: it's a good thing she's cute, otherwise that child might not have had it so lucky!

Chalk it up to creativity and ingenuity... maybe it'll make you feel better!

I TOTALLY wanted to bolt all of our kitchen floors to the chair for an entire year with Audrey. Oh I sooooo feel your pain....

How can you ever disciple that child...with that darling little face like hers? (smile)

Oh I love it! I wish there would have been blogging when some of my older ones were children. It would have been nice to document their escapades. My memory is not what it used to be. I have decided that you lose brain cells with every child you give birth to. I think they sneak them when you are pregnant. One of my boys started climbing up the fridge before he was a year old. I caught him balanced on the top of the door, throwing eggs down to the dog who waited eagerly to devour each and every one. Yeah, not even age can quite erase that vivid picture from my mind. Love your dealings with your children. They are pretty darn amazing!!

All of our original kitchen chairs have broken (cheap table set+9 years old+3 boys=not lasting) We now have folding chairs, so those chairs stay folded up against the wall unless a butt is in them. :) The bar stools stay on the counter unless a butt is in them also.

My 2 year old has not been able to unfold or get the chairs down...yet.

I think I just caught a glimpse of what is yet to come for me and I don't like it one bit.
