Just a spoonful of sugar

My little brother Abe is getting married on Friday.

But since there is no temple nearby where my soon-to-be sister in law is from, which also happens to be where my parents now live (I'm sure you can figure out how the two love birds met) they have decided to get married here in Idaho.

Since we are the only ones who live around here, guess where my whole famdamily is staying?

I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count.

Now, our house if plenty big for our little family. Sure we'll eventually need more space but for now, it's perfect.

But there's only six of us. And by tomorrow they'll be nine extra adults and three extra kids. And since I'm all about mental stimulation around here, I'll let you do the math. *Now where is my dad-gum calculator....*

Sure we've done it before, but it's still tight, way tight. Makes me wish that we had a finished basement something fierce.

But everyone are good sports about the limited couch space, as long as certain people don't sit on certain people's laps, sleeping on air mattresses, as long as there's no holes, and cramming into our little kitchen, as long as there's enough food.

And I'm excited to have everyone here, I really am! I love the craziness of it all.

So today is cleaning day. Something I've deliberately put off until the last minute, which I consider a rather brilliant move on my part.

Because I'm a genius like that.

Just ask me.

Cause' anyone who has/had small, but potty trained kids knows how pointless it is to clean the bathrooms, until right before company comes, if you want it clean and smelling decent at all.

Or how utterly rediculous it is to mop the kitchen floor, vacuum, or any other such activity that makes your house looks nice until the last possible moment.

Not that my family really cares, but I do. Because secretly, I'm all warm and fluffy like that... whenever I have company coming anyway. But don't give away my secret and tell anyone.

So I'm off, to clean.

Just call me Mary Poppins.

On second thought, don't. I don't sing. Unless croaking counts.

Boy, can I relate to this one. I've got my whole famiy coming next week to a house that just doesn't even begin to accommodate everybody. We are crammed in here like sardines!

Still, I look forward to it...but with some trepidation, if I'm honest. And I've got LOTS of work to do before I start shoehorning them in here on Monday.

You and I will both have a great time, I know. And hopefully, our houses (and families) will be intact when it's all over!

;)

PS. Good luck, my sistah! And a very happy wedding to you all!!

Oh, Serene. You are such a good sport. A good morning sick puker good sport. I myself would leave the house to the relatives, and go get myself a hotel room. Because that's how selfish I am. They're lucky to have you as their hostess. :)

You are a good person. Sometimes, when I think about moving into a larger house, I realize how nice it is to not have room for crazy family to stay with us.

Oh I agree with the "don't clean until right before the come." It is completely pointless. I always try to do a deep clean a few days before, but it gets messy in 2 minutes around here so I wait to do the rest.

One time right before my in-laws came for Christmas, I accidentally took my husbands medicine instead of my vitamin, which accidentally had an adverse effect and made me feel like I was on something fierce, which accidentally made me deep clean my house top to bottom in 2 hours.

Want me to send you some? heehee.

good luck! I'm a last minute cleaner too. with 4 kids its pointless to clean any sooner. :)

Totally, the only way to get a clean house is to do the "flight of the bumblebee" 15 minutes before everyone gets there!

Oh, have fun with your family!! They should cheer you up plenty and maybe even help you clean up a little more before they leave. It will be so nice for you to be able to spend time with the whole crowd!!

What is it they say? Procrastinators do it better?

Let the guests clean everything if they want to stay in a neat and ordered home! (I say this knowing that I would never do such a thing myself, and that it's wrong on every count. But, hey--you truly deserve it!)

oh, goodness, that would stress me out. You actually sound rather calm (or is it resigned?) about it.

Wow....I hear ya! I'm at the point though that my house is so small, that they will go to the hotel for the most part! Good luck with all of the "togetherness"!

Given that there are not that many Abes in the world, I actually thought this was referring to me at first glace. Congrats to this Abe though. I hear Idaho weddings in November are freezing. Actually, I don't hear that. I just imagine it.
