The truth about my pregnancies

I admit, I was kind of surprised at the amount of people who suspected something was up based on my blogging.

Blast, I didn't realize I was so transparent!

And to all you lovely ladies who admitted to not getting sick when pregnant, I now have all your profile pictures hanging on my wall.

For dart practice.

Okay, not really, but just know how very jealous I am of you. So very, very jealous.

The couch and I are now best friends.

But to answer a few of your questions.

I actually don't throw up very often, maybe once or twice a week, although there have been times when it is more. I am cursed with a constant nausea. You know, the kind that sits in the base of your throat so you feel like at any given moment, you'll need to race to the porcelain throne? Yea, that remains constant for me. Never a break from it, even after I actually do throw up.

It even gets me when I sleep. I'll be lost in sweet oblivion until I move or shift positions, then waves of nausea usually wake me up.

I also get headaches almost everyday. It just comes with the territory for me. Insomnia will also find me in a couple months.

Now, with my first baby, this was how I felt for the whole nine months solid. If anything, it got worse after my first trimester. But I was working and in school so I didn't have time to feel sorry for myself.

And it was the trend with my second and started out that way with my third. It was then I began to notice a pattern.

Wheat, dairy and plain water tend to make me excessively nauseous! So I discovered that if I try to avoid them, then after the first four months or so, I tend to be sick only in the mornings, feeling fine the rest of the day.

And I'm pretty sure I've tried ever trick in the book to help with the nausea.

Ginger ale, ginger capsules, vitamin b6, black licorice, peppermint herb tea, raspberry leaf tea, and sucking on mints all day are just a few of the things I've tried. I've never noticed any significant change upon use, although some do help take the edge off for a little while. Still, I'm always open to more suggestions.

Oh, and I hate the whole, weight gain thing. I'll admit, I'm vain like that.

So why the heck do I keep getting pregnant?

Come on now, need I say more?

Except that once again, I would like to state for the record that...

I voted for the stork.

So for the first time around I would worship the toilet and feel better, the second, It came every once in a while, then it went away after 12 weeks, now this one... I made a mistake. See with the 4 losses i never felt anything, so I knew I was going to loose it. So for this one I prayed to be sick so I would know everything would be okay. And Voala... Be careful what you ask for. You just described my 3 viable pregnancy. I hope you feel better.

And that was a good (though doomed) vote!

i'll admit that though i dont love pregnancy (constant heartburn, weight gain, constipation, ect.), the hardest part for me by FAR is the actual RAISING THE KID part! lol. i dont know how you do it. ive been seriously contemplating being done with the 2 i have... the MOST i will do is 3.

anyways, you are so thin. how much do you usually gain with each pregnancy? and when can we expect to see some belly pics? ;)

Well, I don't know what it's like to be pregnant, but headaches and nausea are my two most annoying friends that won't leave me alone! Propping myself up on pillows helps tremendously. Also, something that my mom discovered a few years ago when a stomach bug was going through all of Orange County, Cola Syrup. It's like a super strong taste of Coke, but you put like 1 or 2 tablespoons on top of some ice chips and just sip it slowly. Supposed to help relieve the nausea. Worth a try! Feel better!!

My pregnancies are like that too. YECH!

Lemon heads or other sour candies helps... for a minute.

Preggie Pop Drops... they really seemed to help me. Hope you feel better soon!

#1: sick all day, laid on the couch. Then the HEARTBURN!
#2: sick all day, laid on the couch and tossed peanut butter sandwiches at #1. Called 911 because of HEARTBURN!
#3: sick all day, laid on the couch and read to #1 & #2 while they ate peanut butter sandwiches. Ate A LOT of mustard trying to rid of HEARTBURN!
#4: Minimal sickness, minimal heartburn, LOTS more energy, WHY? 1 cup warm water + 2 teaspoons unfiltered apple cider vinegar + 2 teaspoons raw organic honey (2-3 times daily). I know how weird this sounds but seriously - TRY IT!

it's posts like yours that help me feel great about not having had babies yet and reaffirm adoption :) After all the stories I've heard, if I actually WOULD become pregnant I am now completely assured that I'd be absolutely terrified :)

You have adorable kids! Can't wait to see what this one looks like :) I hope you get through this okay. Definitely not easy!!

So sorry you are so sick! That makes the time seem to go by even slower.
Congrats! Are you going to take a vote- who thinks boy or girl? :)

Awww your kiddo's are sooo very darling! I hope your sickness does not last long. That is interesting that you figured out a few things that you can avoid but plain water is a surprise!

Oh my gosh. I am the same way. I get so, so sick :( I have puked in every conceivable and not-so-conceivable place including (but not limited to) an empty big gulp cup that was unfortunate enough to be sitting near me, a McDonald's parking lot, the side of the interstate and every public facility ever.

Saimi said...

Ahhh, yep you guys sure know how to make cute kiddos!

Hang in there!

So happy for you! I was sick, on medication, sick some more, in the hospital, and sick some more with all nine babies. It never got better! Oh well, I never did have the weight gain problem. I did that when I was nursing!!! Some of us are just lucky that way. I do have to say, I have never regretted one awful, wonderful moment of it. The present at the end is totally worth it.

Sarah...You ought to try...the Apple cider vinegar advice...from the "Jamison Family"...It is GREAT for you...just not certain how YOUR system will react to it during pregnancy...However, it really is VERY GOOD for you...in general...

Congratulations! You are a better woman than I. Wait...

really, if you need me to help again, i am up for it!

Oh, I feel for you. Yes, exactly that because I'm dealing with the same thing, and nothing helps here either. My nausea is really bad in the beginning and then tapers down to less, but is still there the entire pregnancy. If I wait too long to eat, it attacks full force, as I mistakenly found out yesterday when I put off breakfast until all the kids were up (and they actually slept in for once!). I've tried everything too and nothing works. Even the medications. The only thing that works is to have the baby and then you're just tired all the time. Why do we do this to ourselves? I guess the outcome is worth it, but sometimes, I have to wonder...(after cleaning up pee on the floor for my potty training child for the fourth time in the same day...)

Congratulations! And Condolences, on the icky sicky part. I definitely understand! My pregnancies are pretty horrific on that front. But the end result is awesome, so that's why we do it! And I vote for the stork, too! I am crossing my fingers that he'll bring one to me without my having to do a thing! (ha!)

Serene--I understand. Sick, sick, sick. Nothing worked. At all. Except for...um...nope nothing.

Still. CONGRATULATIONS!! (And, yes, I am a bit jealous.)

LOVE that cartoon!!!! i voted for the stork too. I demand a recount :)

{whispering low} i never had even a hint of morning sickness with any of my 4 pregnancies.

Garvin Smith said...

Don't let Mama see this, but have you tried large doses of chocolate to help with the sickness?

Sarah Larsen said...

Oh Serene! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! I love that picture of your kids. I can't believe how big the littlest has gotten even since the last time I was active in blog checking! I've missed your posts! I hope you get through the sickness. FAST!

Go ahead and throw a dart my friend, I can take it and it will make you feel better!

Fingers crossed for a good pregnancy!

That's exactly how I am! Constant nausea with only seldom barfing. It is MISERY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate it! I hope it passes soon for you, friend!

I read this poll once where they asked mothers of a lot of children how much they enjoyed being pregnant and it seems like over 85% of them hated every moment. I am in the 85%, too. Good luck with the sickness, pregnancy without ice cream? Torture I say!

Hehe!! Congratulations to you!!

i cant believe that you missed the obvious suggestion, chocolate! maybe, maybe not?!?!
