Alayna's Check-up

We drove the three-plus hours down to Salt Lake with surprisingly little incident. No one threw up (my kids are awfully prone to car sickness, which they get from me) and we only had to make one extra potty-break stop.

I know, shocking.

Arriving an hour and a half early, we decided to check out the Church History Museum to kill time. It was really cool, even if I did spend most of the experience chasing toddlers. As we were getting ready to leave, something caught my eye.

Looking closer, it was an old cross-stitch. It took me a moment to figure out what it said, and when I did, I burst out laughing.

It read, "The Mormon Creed is to Mind Your Own Business".

I wish I had a picture of it. I'd hang it in my living room window.

And make a t-shirt.

After that we drove to Primary Children's Hospital where we waited an hour to see Dr. Siddiqi for Alayna's one-year post surgery check-up. He came in, gave her head a good feel over, and said there were no gaps, which would be the only issue at this point. He then measured her head, said everything looked great, asked if we had any questions, then we said goodbye.

I think the check-up took a grand total of five minutes.

Then we loaded back up in the car and drove the three-plus hours home. This time with Alayna screaming at least half the way, and with only one extra emergency potty-break stop.

I know, shocking.

Now, don't get me wrong. We are extremely grateful that there was nothing wrong and that the check-up was in and out. Better than any alternative and we would gladly do it a hundred times over.

But couldn't we skip the seven hours of driving next year and just send a picture?

I'll even measure her head and send in the numbers.

Free of charge.

Oh man, nothing like a 3 hour trip to SLC. It takes us that long to get there too and I'm dreading this weekend trip too! Glad she's doing well!!!

Maybe you can Skype the appointment.

That's exactly how most of Josh's follow ups have gone. Luckily it isn't a three hour drive, but he has at least six hours worth of scans the week before each appointment and has to wait to see all the different specialists who worked on him. And he has to follow up every three months. We are glad they are thorough, because if they miss something, he dies. So it isn't at all negotiable, and we wouldn't want them to stop following up, but man it seems like a huge waste of time.

3 hours for 5 minutes?
Oh sheesh.
I's with Kristina...next time Skype the appt...
She sure is a cutie though. I am glad she is OKAY...

Pretty amazing, though, to think that they were able to fix her problem so completely.

Modern medicine does have its perks!

=)

PS. The long drive? Not so much...

So sorry we weren't able to meet up yesterday- I was having a day. Tell you more about it soon. I'm so glad Alayna is doing well- lots of hugs to everyone.

She's sooo cute! Too bad you didn't have family to visit or anything. I opted out of going to Primary Children's for extra appointments when my local doctor felt like he could handle the follow-up check-ups.. but it is still nice to get the specialist's opinion and feel reassured.

She is a cutie! Glad to hear that everything is well!

Aint that the truth ;)! I've often wondered if I could just "gently" accost certain Dr's in a hallway to have them look at my child- - all I want them to do is look. It wouldn't take long. Plus, I could offer up chocolate chip cookies in gratitude. I guess that's not the way things are done, though. Too bad. . . the cookies are awesome.

Glad Alayna is doing so well :)! YAY!!

Ya-- but then you wouldn't have seem that cross-stitch. And that was DEFINITELY worth the 7+ hours?

Am I right or am I right? Or am I right?

(if you have seen Groundhog's Day you'll know that quote from Needlenose Ned)

7+ hours and you got a good diagnosis AND a hilarious Mormon creed...

now you just needed a lunch break (ideally with a babysitter for the kids) if I'd known I could have driven 7 hours the other way to meet you... or not...

Will you measure it with the pigtails or without? :-)

Honestly, I unfortunately know too many LDS who do NOT follow that creed. How irksome.

Now...that is a picture...that deserves some kind of "caption"! (smile)

I love that pic of Alayna! She is so precious! You'd think the Dr. would at least give you 10% of the time it took you to drive....so why not a full 7 minutes next time! ;-) I'm glad all is well with your little one!

P.S. I dreamed last night that I was able to visit you and your family, and finally able to meet Alayna. And I loved her as much as I expected to. :-)

Mind your own business? Wow, the Church (or the people) have clearly changed a whole lot in the intervening years!!!!

Glad the check up went well.

I think every ward should have a homemaking night where that creed is crosstitched; tole painted; vinyl lettered....whatever so that every home has it.|!

Love it! And love that the check up was good

Hurray for positive check-ups.

Boo for long drives.

I know a lot of Mormons NOT following our little creed. I'm going to tell on them. Because I can't just mind my own business and let it go...
