Children are Like Onions

My poor, poor neglected blog.

I think I hurt its feelings.

Every time I ran past it this week on my way to somewhere else, or scurried and cleaned around it in anticipation for the company I was expecting, or ignored it in an attempt to meet an art deadline, it looked at me with its large, looming eyes, begging, pleading to be written on.

And I would cave, because I love it so. I would give in and start writing or loading pictures, only to get called away by something more pressing.

Like bleeding children, or unexpected company.

So I tried. Truly I did.

I now have so many half-written posts, half loaded pictures, even half read blog posts written by you.

But I faithfully read every comment that has passed through my email. Because I love comments more than hot fudge.

That's how special you all are to me.

Still, I hope you all forgive me of my neglect, on my blog and on yours.

I can only beg you understand why when I say that children are like onions.

Donkey: They stink?
Shrek: Yes. No.
Me: Oh yes they do. Love them, but diaper changing does not make my list of top ten favorite things to do. Neither does giving them baths. Just sayin'.

D: Oh they make you cry.
S: No!
Me: Well, on a bad day or a trip to the grocery store, yes. Those little mini people are mighty powerful in the emotional arena. Pride and parenthood mix like baby food and steak. Beware.

D: Oh you leave them out in the sun and they get all brown and start sprouting little white hairs!
S: No!
Me: Yes! Totally! Thanks to all the fun in the sun we've had this past week, we certainly have browned up and my kids are looking mighty blonde! And I may have sprouted a white hair or two... or three.

S: Layers! Onions have layers! Ogres have layers! You get it? We both have layers!
M: Oh yes, I get it! Kids have layers too. So, so many. And when you have that many little layers shedding all over the house, all over the park, and all over the sprinklers, one tends to loose the time that is needed to blog.

So many layers to deal with, so little time.

Contemplate on this wisdom for a day or two. You might actually make sense of it.

And when you do, be sure to give me a call and tell me what it means. I'm still trying to figure out what I wrote.

This message of extreme wisdom has been brought to you by the Children are Like Onions Foundation, where every child has layers.

Perfect timing. We just saw Shrek 4. (Which I really liked, but only about 30% as much as Toy Story 3) Excellent comparison.

Ahh! You are fine girl!
Ahh, lots of half written posts huh?
Then you have posts to finish and ideas for later right? LOL!
Hope you had a good 4th!
I LOVE Shrek! Love the comparison too!

Today I have learned that Shrek is the key to explaining life's mysteries.

I'd better rent that thing!

First of all, I adore Shrek. So just the fact that you quoted the movie makes you all the more a VIP in my book of cool people.
Second of all, thanks for all your wisdom. Every little pearl that comes my way and gives me a chuckle, I log it in my book of parenting.
And thanks for the fun post!

It's okay. I only slightly hate you for not visiting my blog. It will only take a gazillion years for that feeling to go away. Or until you post again. Whichever comes first.

You know, I knew exactly what you meant by the onion comparison. By that I mean, I was as confused as you were. ; )

Very, very deep thinking. Or maybe that is the onion overdose speaking. Um, does that mean I ate my children?
