And I'm Off!

I tried to make smores with my kids last night by heating the marshmallows in my oven using a small stick.

After lighting the marshmallows on fire every time I touched a burner (which I secretly thought was kind of fun) I resorted to nuking them in the microwave.

I think I was warming up for the fact that if you are reading this, it means I am on my way to Girl's Camp. It goes from today until Friday.

My mom is here to watch my kids for me.

Heaven help us both.

If you're not LDS, (aka Mormon) Girl's Camp is where the young women of our faith in the area ages 12-18, (yes, the ones going through puberty) go off to camp for a few days to have crazy fun.

Oh, and learn things too.

I'm going because I work with them. I serve in the Young Women's organization.

I have many memories of Girl's Camp. Amazingly, I have almost none of the very first time I ever went when I was twelve years old.

All I know if that I was devastatingly stylish.

Truly the envy of all around me.

I happen to know this for a fact because only someone completely sure of themself would be bold enough to wear an over-sized bright pink shirt and tapered jeans to show off the rockin' high top tennis-shoes.

I think the visor and watch were a rather nice touch as well.

Don't you wish you were as cool as me when you were twelve?

This is how girls camp is, though. I have a picture of me wearing blue, red and green striped pants (who even MADE those???!!!) with a navy blue oversize shirt and a bandanna wrapped around my head. Awesomeness ensued.

Love the shirt, I remember those years! Being 12 and being so free, then you look back and think what in the heck was I wearing. I would have loved to have seen that shirt after swimming in it though. LOL It probably would have been a floor length dress. :) We might see you in AUGUST!!! Still working on my schedule and Dad's.

Have a great time. This is one of the biggest things I miss about being in a branch. We don't have a Young Women's program.

Wow, you are brave to post pics of yourself at 12. I think all mine have been burned.

yikes! if someone were to dig up MY 12 year old YW camp photos I think I'd have to off them before they shared! (think purple velcro tennis shoes... and no, I'm not just making this up to make you laugh!)

Yes I do wish I were as cool as you. Like now. Can you share some of your coolness, pleas??

So does this mean your mom will be blogging about her stay with the kids?

Seriously now, you don't want your followers (like me) to go into withdrawals do you?

Have fun!!

I loved girl's camp when I was a kid.

No, I didn't go, but the girl I was in love with did. When we went to visit my sister on family night I'd spend all my time with her.

I'm pretty sure she thought I was toxic back then though.

You were the cool kid that the rest of us were intimidated by!

And how did those shorts next to you get by the leaders? : )

Have so much fun - girls camp is the best!

Girls Camp is the best. I am so jealous you get to go. I was never able to when I was a YW leader. But I was quite sure to teach my Beehives GC songs so they were all ready. And now I am introducing them into storytimes. They shall never die out while I am around.

And heaven knows how many odd camp pictures there are of me. I was all about looking as wretched and ridiculous as one could. And I gloried in it. But then, I didn't care all that much outside of camp either...

Have a blast for us both!

OMG!!!! I'm so glad that you can only see my butt in those high waisted shorts in the top photo! EEK! But man those were fun times! Such fond times of Girls Camp. Even after I graduated, I still went back with former leaders to prank the new leaders...And that oversized pink tee shirt was all the rage back in 95!

I miss camps like that, and I would love to serve in YW. That's my secret hope and wish when I am married and in a home ward again. For now, I just adore the EFY scene. :) HAVE A BLAST this week!

Serene. Leave the oven closed. USE THE STOVE if you want it on a stick. We actually did that last Friday, then some of us slept in a tent in the backyard...probably as close to camping we will get this year.

Wow you looked tall. I went to music camp once. It was fun. I knew I wasn't cool as you, but I was about your age. I think it was the first time I was away from my parents for a whole week. The hardest part was sleeping in the barracks with 50 other kids making noise. Fun memories. Thanks. W.C.C.
