To my Mother

To the woman who pushed all 9 lbs 9 oz of me out of her screaming birth canal.

To the woman who gave birth to seven children in an eight-year period.

To the woman who had her last baby, child number eight, at the ripe young age of 42.

To the woman who joined the church despite intense opposition from her family.

To the woman who woke me up every morning at 5am to have family scripture study.

To the woman who spent hours listening to me blabber about my teenage drama, and never laughed.

To the woman who gave up so much for me and my siblings, more than we'll ever know.

To the woman who had stood firm through it all, who never doubted or questioned.

Happy Mother's Day.

I love you.

~~~~~
I'm pretty sure I gained a good 6.3 pounds this weekend.
But that has NOTHING to do with the fact that I did NOT horde all the beef jerky and chocolate.
NOR am I ghetto enough to wrap my mother's day presents in Christmas paper.
And neither is my sister.
And while we were taking the five out of eight kids photos with my mom, my brother did NOT smash cake and ice cream into my face.
It was strangely a bit de ja'vu of my wedding day.
Awkward....
NOR did he pinch my bum during another photo which he thought was so funny he could not stop laughing.
Because we are a mature and civilized family and we do NOT engage in such foolishness.
NOR do any of us wrestle. Ever.
It only brings out our inner vampire.
That being said, if you dare to read more about our totally, completely boring weekend, I'll see you tomorrow!
I hope you all had a WONDERFUL Mother's Day weekend!
Cute post! Don't think I've ever taken a family photo with one of my brother's pinching my bum.
Looks like a fun time with the family. Your mom sounds great, and her picture matches the image I get of her reading your post.
Pushing out nine pounds nine ounces sounds pretty impressive... however, as I'm the only one to mention it, and most of the other (maybe all... I'm not sure if it was John or Jami in the first) commenters are female, I can only assume it's just another typical day in the life of a woman. You guys are tough. :)
Sounds like you have a wonderful mother and family.
Yes, you've just given me free license to poke my sister's bum...oh wait I already do that every chance I get! Happy Mother's Day!
AHAHAHAHAHA!!! Love the pictures! Tells much more tale than you might have otherwise. Bum pinching brothers and vampire wrestling...who knew?
Serene, I sent your mom an email last night wishing her happy mother's day and thanking her for helping raise my own kids. I love how our families were intertwined through the years and I relish all the memories -- especially of that little spitfire named Serene. Do you remember when you help paint the entire interior of my house? or the time you deep cleaned the house for my birthday? LOVE YOU! Happy happy Mother's Day (how about week!)
Are you telling me other types of wrapping paper exist?!? And that other people don't horde the good food? Weird.
