Of course we have more clothes than men!

I believe it would be a safe to say that we have all sat in one conversation or another where someone, usually male, just has to make fun of the amount of clothes women have.

Pish, jealous.

I use to wonder at this myself actually as I can safely say my main wardrobe growing up consisted of jeans, t-shirts, and flip flops. I realize that there are women out there who shop in excess, but that's not the point here. I have come to understand just WHY women tend to have more clothes than men.

The answer is really quite obvious.

It all starts at a young age. We girls are going along in our happy existence when wham! Puberty hits like a pound of bacon without warning. For me that meant upgrading my training bra and jean size. Suddenly you have all these curves that you just don't know what to do with and which calls for a whole different wardrobe!

Once we get puberty figured out, maybe grow into our new curves, maybe we gain/lose more weight and as a teenager, we learn about style and once again have to adjust our wardrobe.

Of course, I was never a stylish teenager. Just trust me on this one, okay?

Then we get married. Whether you are on birth control or not, your body has to endure yet another hormonal change which seems to alter your body in any number of ways! As evidenced by the fact that my wedding dress didn't fit me one month after I bought it.

Then the kids come along. Now THAT could be a whole post by itself! And I have known enough women on fertility treatments to know how that can put your body through the ringer too.

As it currently stands, I have many more pairs of jeans than my husband does. I have a stack of my:

- skinny jeans (currently gives me a muffin top)
- newly pregnant and gaining weight jeans (currently sags disgracefully in the bum area)
- maternity jeans (well, those are just packed away for now!)
- post baby jeans (currently falls to my knees when I wear them)
- almost skinny jeans (what I am currently wearing)

Then the cycle starts again. And that's just the pants! Don't get me started on tops or bra sizes. Somewhere out there, a man might be reading this you know. And quite frankly, even when I do lose all the baby weight, things always seem to fit completely different after each child.

If we avoid buying clothes that fit us and try to squeeze into clothes that are too small, we look rediculous and have love handles sticking out everywhere.

If we wear clothes that are too big for us, we are accused of being sloppy!

So I don't understand why we are given such a hard time for having so many clothes! We can't help it!

We were created this way.

In case you can't read between the lines here, I'm having a sudden desire to go clothes shopping and I'm trying to justify acting on that desire.

You go girl! Shop away. I agree with ya.
I think you should buy double.

So true! Can I come shopping?

My husband actually has more clothes than I do, but since I have more shoes I get the bigger closet. When I feel down, shopping always picks me up. Do it.

This is why I have the biggest part of the closet!!!

You are always frugal, so you totally deserve some new clothes to make you feel great.

In my case, my husband has more clothes than I do. I have gone through many sizes, like you said, but I have tossed many of them knowing that 1) I won't be my pre-pregnancy size again and 2) I don't need my maternity clothes so I gave all those away. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE clothes, but since my body doesn't look good in anything I like, it gets depressing to try clothes on. My thin (no matter how much he eats) husband can fit into anything and loves clothes shopping.

My husband has more clothes than I do. Seriously. We argue about it, and he insists that he doesn't, but it's true. I do the laundry, I know.

I just bought two new pairs of jeans, which is a record for me, because I hate shopping for jeans. But I do love a good shopping trip. Sign me up!

I wish we could all go shopping together! Without someone with me I tend to by things that look just like everything else in my wardrobe!

And I say any wife who has a husband with more clothes than they do should be allowed to go on a shopping spree!

I hear ya sister friend!

I need a post baby #1 and post baby #2 wardrobe, because things sure have moved back into different places...AGAIN.

Of course!

Very well put. I guess I could be grateful that I haven't encountered all the baby changes to myself, yet. But I'm currently enduring the losing weight phase and clothes are starting to fit funny in areas I've never seen happen to me before. While I am quite happy about it, I also can't afford to buy anything new that would actually fit. I'm just hoping no one is noticing too much the saggy bagginess where it shouldn't be.

While you are out on your shopping spree, will you pick a few things up for me? I think my husband and I are pretty equal on cloths. I better get to work fixing that.

I'm one of the minority of women who hate clothes shopping. (Now, a used bookstore? Oh, boy!) :) I blame it on my body type. Where can you find a fit for a 4 size difference between bust and belly?! But I love going shopping with people who are going clothes shopping. As long as I'm not required to shop. What are you doing this July? :)

AMEN!! You also forgot the...I get spit up on/peed on way more than my husband so to keep me from having to do laundry 24/7 instead of 24/6 (I take sundays off;)I have extra clothes!!

Yeah, it drives me crazy that in the 12 years we've been married, DH has stayed the same size.

--Although, he still has more clothes than I do. He is a packrat and I love to purge. He has clothes from years ago that he never wears, and I get rid of old clothes about once a year.

LOL! You ladies just crack me up! I love it!

But I hereby declare that you all should go shopping! Get something cute!

Then come back and tell me so I can justify going shopping too. =)

Ironically, even with all of the different categories of clothes, my husband still has more than I do.

And it drives me nuts! :)

You are absolutely right. My feet stay the same size, though, so if you think up a reason for more shoes, let me know ASAP!

I wish I had more clothes than my husband! I've become a master purger, so none of my clothes are more than a few years old. Someday, I will have more clothes than him...someday.

I completely agree with this post. And I really don't have that many clothes compared to many other women. I just have more than my husband, who only has one type of T-shirt, a couple sweatshirts, and two pairs of jeans (one to wear when the other is in the wash). That and a few things for Sunday and he's set. Since his job provides his pants, shirts and shoes, he can hardly blame me for having more than he does.

I'm indebted to you--yow I know what I'm going to be getting myself into when I get married. But judging by your beautiful kiddos, it looks like it's worth it!

P.S. You're gorgeous!
