I forgot to laugh, could you repeat that please?

Every one likes a good joke.

Who doesn't appreciate something clever and witty that makes you laugh so hard you cry, smearing the mascara that you actually went through the effort to apply that morning all over your face.

Unless you're a guy, then the black smearing would be rather awkward.

And I love you Savannah, I really do. But I would just like to lovingly inform you that you probably won't have a bright career in comedy.

Or dance.

But that's really all my fault. You inherited my lack of gracefulness extra big feet.

Anyway, as a parent I realize that I may need leverage for use in your teenage years in the extremely unlikely scenario you discover that I just might not know everything.

Or an right all the time.

Or am perfect.

But, if that time comes, and we are arguing over the fact that I am a mean mom and that life is so unfair, I will whip out this post and hand it to you and lovingly say, my darling baby girl, this is what  you sound like at this moment.

Savannah: Can I tell you a joke?

Me: Sure!

S: Why does the cat and puppy eat bad food to stay alive?

M: I don't know, why?

S: Because they're rich!  Bahahahahahahaha!!!! That was funny!

S: Can I tell you another one?
M: Sure, go ahead.

S: Knock knock.

M: Who's there?

S: Picture... frame.

M: Picture frame who?

S: Picture frame drinking milk all day!  Hahahah ahahaha haha!

S: Why does the chicken have stripes?

M: Why?

S: Because it's a rainbow chicken!!  Hahahaha! That was a good one!

And this point she realized I was jotting down notes and said, "did you write that one down mom?"

S: Knock knock

M: Who's there?

S: Syrup

M: Syrup who?

S: Syrup man with pants and a shirt! I'm syrup man! Gwaaaa hahahahaha! That's funny!

This continued on for about half an hour.

I'm only just now truly starting to realize the sacrifices parents make for their children, like fake laughing for half an hour straight.

Oh, and since I have just spent almost the whole day at a neighbor's house, I didn't even realize I was guest posting at MMB today! Go check it out!... if you dare....

It's a good thing she too young right now to know our real reasons for laughing. My poor brother told jokes like this into his teens, and it never stopped him when he knew we didn't think they were funny. In his mind, he was hilarious.

My 7-year-old is just getting the hang of the knock knock jokes. And they're tricky! It took me years to master them, too. Now I only use my powers of comedic timing for good.

This THIS is why I have two girls that are 20 months apart! It's so that when they decide to tell jokes that make absolutely no sense and then giggle hysterically, they can do it with each other and I can roll my eyes from across the room.

I seriously thought my kids were the only ones who did this. I'm relieved.

As we speak, my 8 year old is singing "Cinderelly, Cinderelly, you have such a big fat belly."

My kids are always making up the most non-sensical knock-knock jokes. My laughter is genuine because they crack me up at how dumb they are! The jokes, not the kids.

Yep, my kids too! They are amazing! But how boring life would be without them to teach us to laugh!

Just wait till she's a teenager - she'll really crack you up :) Then you'll be super glad you listened all those years!

I love little kids' knock knock jokes. There's no need to fake laugh because it's truly hilarious how funny they think they are.

Ha! When they get to this stage it is a wonderful reminder of how much they have grown! It is also somewhat...um...annoying. (Is that mean to call my child annoying? Probably. Oh well.)

Look at it this way, Sarah...It is when the "parent" GETS THE JOKE!!! (or NOT!)that is sometimes troubling...(smile)

The beginning knock knock jokes. Looks like she is dabbling with the chicken and the road ones, too. Isn't that a wonderful phase (as long as it stays a SHORT phase- I can only handle driving around listening to those jokes so long before I start thinking about driving off a cliff).

Bwahahaha! That's hilarious. It reminds my of my now 20-something little brother, and his first foray into comedy. This gem was told many a time during his youth:

Joey: Knock Knock
Me: Who's there?
Joey: Pinocchio
Me: Pinocchio who?
Joey: Ice cream! (followed by insane fits of giggles)
