Road Trip and Sam's Club

We're heading To Primary Children's Hospital today for Alayna's first post-surgery check-up.

In the meantime, enjoy reading our Sam's Club experience.

Friday afternoon, Alyana ran out of formula. Of course this meant a trip to Sam's Club since they have the cheapest formula.

My kids LOVE their double seated carts and they always all want to sit in a seat. For me, this means navigating two of these big carts around the store.

We got the typical, "you've sure got your hands full" comments. One mom who had two kids in her cart, watched us for a moment then said, "So is that what its like with four kids? You're a better woman than me!" I always think its so funny when people say something like that.

Anyway, this next one was the best.

While walking down one aisle, we passed two older men. One of them turned to me and asked, quite sincerely, "So is this some kind of Daycare?"

"Nope." I replied with all my smiling politeness, "No, I'm the mommy."

The man just looked at me for a minute, then at the kids, then back at me. When he finally said something, it was very original. "Well, you sure do have your hands full don't you."

Do people just not believe me when I tell them I'm their mother?

I'm surprised you haven't gotten...."Don't you know what causes that?" (that is the one I mostly got)... To which I would reply: "Yes, and we are having way too much fun...to quit...!"

Oh, but I have! I've had people offer me "reading material". =)

People are so funny. My tiny little mommy of 6 got it all the time! We couldn't go in public without everyone stopping my mom or commenting to her about all of us being hers. Even in Utah :-)

My Mom still gets that even with most of her kids grown up. Family get-togethers are quite fun. Of course, with we kids being older, now WE stare back and laugh at THEM. Maybe we shouldn't be doing that....

Ah Serene! I love reading your blog. You express your Mommy experiences in such a wonderful way. Makes me want to turn the hand prints on the wall into something to love instead of the ultimate evil in the house! :) Keep the posts coming.

I bet half the time people spend looking is trying to decide if any of them are multiples or if you really have four kids all at different ages. And then there's the fact that you look so young and cute and skinny. I'm sure that adds to the confusion. You live with it every day so you're used to it; you just need to give everyone else time to figure it out. :)

People always ask if her children have the same father or if any of them are stepchildren. :) They're always shocked when she says not only are all 8 hers, but they have the same father. I know. Gasp.

You do look too young to have that many kids (and this is a compliment)! :)

That is it Brittney & Renee...Serene, you are just fit, young & beautiful...and with that many children that you obviously love...people have to wonder if it could really be true!?!

Hey girl, I soooo understand. Even what mom said too. We say kids say the darndest things and tehy do but they can, people say it and look kinda silly. I also love the question after a ling pause of "you've got your hands full" the next question, "are they all yours?" You just gotta jaugh even when it is the 12th time you have heard it and it is only 9:30 in the morning(: hehehe I love reading your blog...you put being a mom of a bunch of kids into words better then I can, mind you I know you find mine to add to your humor of the day too(: Have a super duper day(: and to your readers too(:
