I think I just made Heaven's MOST WANTED list.

And not the good kind of most wanted either.

I wanted to punch her, yell at her, shove her away... maybe even pull out her little nose ring.

Does that make me a bad person?

It was suppose to be just a little blood draw from the vein in Alayna's arm. Like when we give blood. No biggie right?

Wrong.

That girl probed Alayna's arm for what seemed like eternity then finally declared she found the vein. She inserted the needle... and missed. Then without ever pulling the needle out all the way she kept pushing and poking back and forth for seriously three or four minutes which is a heck of a long time when your little tiny baby in your arms is screaming so hard she can't even breath.

If she had waited any longer to call for help from another nurse, I think I would have done something bad.

The other nurse walks in and in less than a minute, got the blood from the other arm.

It took every ounce of self mastery I could muster not to glare or be rude to the nurse with the nose ring. I kept wanting to cry I felt so bad for my baby.

If today was bad, I can only imagine what tomorrow will be like.

Still, I must repent or I might have nightmares about evil nurses with nose rings.

I can't believe you didn't punch her. It is hard enough when a nurse does that to us, but to a poor little baby. I am angry at that nurse for you. I hope everything goes well for Alayna, we are thinking of you guys.

Wow I am even more impressed with you. I would have been yelling at her non-stop and then fuming for DAYS afterwards!

The wise (aka good) nurses know when what they are doing isn't working and will call someone else. The evil (aka bad) nurses don't. The challenge is to recognize the evil nurses early so you can call for someone else (from someone else with hidden and collapsible veins).

I have too much emotion...in my heart...for you and Alayna...at this moment...Seeing MY BABY...(YOU)in pain...over your precious child...well...the mother in me...weeps....

My mom still remembers a similar situation with Nathan. Why won't nurses just admit they're not getting it and stop putting those poor babies in pain?!!! I'm sorry.

Glare, get angry, and most importantly, complain (calmly) about the nurse - not so that she gets disciplined or loses her job, but that they know to have somebody in there helping her until she gets better. At that hospital they have teams of phlebotomists whose only job is to go around taking blood from infants. I can't believe she moved the needle around in Alayna's arm. Next time, stop her calmly and say "Please pull the needle out and get another nurse."

My baby Kaitlyn (now 21 years old) is deathly afraid of needles and we've both had some bad experiences like you mentioned (so so sorry to hear it) she has learned that whenever she has to have blood drawn she says "They always have a really really really hard time finding my vein so may I please have your absolute best expert to do it?" She says it sweetly with a smile and they often go get another person. I'm guessing since they probably believe her (that she is harder to find a vein on than a normal person) they would rather hand her off than struggle themselves. So sorry you had such a hard time!!

You poor, poor thing! While I feel bad for Alyana (although I'm pretty sure she won't remember the episode) I feel worse for you because you will remember it. :(

People who aren't good with needles should NOT be using them on a child!
