CT Scan Results - Not Good

I just got the expected call from Alayna's pediatrician, NOT with the news I wanted.

Some of her head plates have indeed fused. These WILL require surgery to break them apart. If it is not done, as her brain grows it will cause pressure and problems.

I'm all emotional just thinking about them cutting open my sweet little baby girl's head. And the pediatrician using words like, "invasive" "recovery time", "scar", and "night in the ICU" did not help one stinking bit.

Since there is no specialist around here it will require a couple trips to Salt Lake. First for a consultation, then for the actual surgery.

I don't know much beyond that. Supposedly I will hear back in the next few days about an appointment time for the consultation and the surgery will take place, most likely sometime within the next several weeks.

She is just so dang sweet, happy, and so very good.

My day is ruined and so is my make-up.

Take comfort in the fact that the pediatric specialists in Salt Lake are some of the best in the Western U.S. And all the staff at Primary Children's (I assume that's where she'll be) are INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL.

We always hate it when things happen to our kids, but I hope that all goes well. We'll keep her in our prayers, too.

If you're going to Primary's down in SLC, you're in good hands. Let us know if you need anything. We'll be thinking of you.

If any baby can handle going through a surgery like that it's little Alayna - she's so sweet, happy, and strong.

Good luck with everything! We'll be thinking of her and wishing the best.

Sorry for the bad news. Let me know when you're down here and if you need anything. My dad's up there with the best docs around!

I'm so sorry Serene. I can't imagine how scary that is for a mom. But you know things will be fine, especially with her going to Primary. Hang in there. You have lots of people praying for your family. Keep us updated!

When the time comes for her surgery...I think it would be wonderful if we had a FAMILY FAST...PlEASE let us know the DATE...and we can FAST in her BEHALF....I know it is rough particularly for "moms"...but, I must admit...it is hard on the GRANNIES as well....

That's awful news, but I'm glad you know now and can have it taken care of before problems could get worse. Your family is on a temple prayer roll and of course I'll continue to pray for you all, too. You all are very strong. I know you'll make it through.

If you need some place to stay for your visits, let me know. You probably have tons of friends, but our house is open if you need it.

Take care.

Something I have learned over the past few years with my ongoing battle with cancer, the things doctors have to do sound a whole lot worse than what they really do. You and Alayna will be in my thoughts and prayers as well.

We'll be praying for her too. Let us know when your family fast is and we'll pray too. You'll make it. Can we still come see you? Need chocolate?

I'm so sorry too, we will remember Alayna in our prayers as well. If you need anything while you are in Utah I would love to help any way I can.

This is what I get for never checking my e-mail, facebook, etc forever... I had to scroll down to see what happened to begin with. Just letting you know I called Dave and we (all the Joslyns)will have your family in our prayers.

I am grateful that Alayna was born at a time, and in a place where where things like this can be fixed. We will place her in Father's care and trust, with faith, that God will bless her.

Now I have two grandchildren that can say, "Know how I got these scars?"
