Sharing the Germs

There should be a law irrevocably decreed in heaven that moms cannot get sick. Because quite frankly, it is a down right, dirty rotten trick when they do.

I finally caught what my boys seem to have. Only it seems like I am more affected by it then they are. Why is that? Maybe kids are just more resilient. Or maybe, well, you know what they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. I feel like my throat is getting ripped out of my neck every time I cough and my head feels like its going to explode every time I move.

It hit me like a ton of bricks this morning. I don't have time to be sick!! I don't even have time to sleep so, what makes anyone think I have time to be sick?

After a rough coughing spasm, Savannah eyed me warily and asked, "Mom, are you sick?"
Of course I told her I was. She then screwed her face up one one side and cocked her head. "But moms can't get sick." she declared.

Oh if only it were true! When dads get sick, they get to stay home from work and spend the day in bed. How come I can't take the day off from work and stay in bed? I think that should be in the mommy contract, that we get some sick days off! Let's all file a petition, or go on strike! Maybe even start a union!

Fine, I guess you're right.

But its still a dirty rotten trick I tell ya! Just down right mean.

Moms get more sick because we're already run down from taking care of everybody else and we don't get any break from doing that while we are sick.

You know what I think is funny is that my big 'ol husband that can unload a full trailer load of hay by himself turns into a helpless lump on the recliner when he gets sick. I don't get to do that when I'm sick.

My solution is:
"Better living through modern chemistry!"
NyQuil (or its cheaper generic "NiteTime") lets me sleep very well at night, and "DayTime" gets me through the day. I know it's only relieving my symptons, but if you are going to be sick anyway, why suffer?

So, my theory is that sometimes junk food makes me feel better when I'm sick. I am sure there is NO science to back me up, but I'll stand by my theory. Our house has been germ ridden as well and licorice seemed to make me feel MUCH better.

I agree with you on moms getting time off. On Tuesday I was SO sick and my husband said, "Is there someone you could call to take care of the kids so you can rest?" And I was thinking, "Yes. YOU my husband,...my babies Daddy. That is YOUR job!" He did his best to get home from work ASAP. And he stayed home from Elders Quorum visits to take care of the kids and put them in bed so I could rest. I guess that's all I can expect. *sigh* I don't know how you do it all with four kids. Really. I feel like I am sinking with two!!!

I hope you feel better SOON!
