One for the Moms!

Last night, I was laying in bed reading, feeling the failures of the day, wishing I was a better mother, wondering why the heck I can't be perfect.  =) I happen to come upon this in the book I was reading. It made me feel a little better somehow so I thought I would share.

" O mothers of young children, I bow before you in reverence. Your work is most holy. You are fashioning the destinies of immortal souls. The powers folded up in the little ones that you hushed to sleep in your bosoms last night are powers that shall exist for ever. You are preparing them for their immortal destiny and influence. Be faithful. Take up your sacred burden reverently."

From the book, "Home-Making" by J.R. Miller. Don't let the title fool you. Its the best book I've ever read on marriage and families. I would recommend it hands down to anyone. It was written back in 1882 so, the language is just a touch different, but not hard reading at all.
One last thought from the book.

"Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is placed in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse into the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into its soul to see its possibilities, could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the developments of its life, and for its destiny, - she would see that in all God's world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no other hands the sacred and holy trust given to her."

That's really amazing. I'm sure we'll never understand our true role in the eternal plan until after death. I think you're doing a great job at motherhood. The fact that you're staying at home with them shows a lot about where your values are.
