Over the River and Through the Woods

We spent Father's Day weekend at Luke's parents house. His entire family was also there with the exception of one brother and his family. The kids had tons of fun with their cousins and the four-wheelers. The weather was perfect so we spent a lot of time outside.

Here's goofy Uncle Lane taking some of the kids for a ride on his blue baby.

Every time we visit Star Valley and Luke spends the day working or helping out with stuff around the farm he seems to be completely in his element.

One of the kids favorite thing to do is ride in the train. The guys have to take turns driving because the kids want to ride in it so long.

Some of the guys were going to go on a four-wheeler ride and a couple of us girls insisted we were going too. Everyone had their own ride except Luke and I had to double up. But, it was so fun because he actually let me drive it all the way to the top of the mountain! It was awesome. While I would never want to live in Star Valley because the winters are so bad, I have to admit that the summers are amazing.

Luke's twin brothers rode their dirt bikes. And of course they are always going off riding up some crazy hill. Here's Brock riding up one of the hills. I told them I thought they were crazy and they just looked at me like I had just said the silliest thing. They were quick to inform me that this was the easy hill, the baby hill.

Here we are at the top of the mountain. The wind was so strong! It felt like it could just lift you up and carry you away. Like Luke's wolverine hair? At least he got a hair cut later that night.

Gee, can't tell that the boys are all Heiners, can you?

Hail the conqueror!

There was still quite a bit of snow at the top of the mountain so I let Luke drive down. Going up hill in the snow is one thing, down, that's another.

There was a little calf born and Joseph just loved that thing. He disappeared at one point and I found him here, with the calf. Poor thing, Joseph kept pushing its head down telling it to go to sleep every time it tried to lift its head up and then he would pull on its ears and tail.

So, Saturday was a blast. But Saturday night? not so much. I had just climbed into bed a little after 11pm when Joseph woke up crying and would not stop. So, I handed him off to Luke because he woke up Jacob, who was now crying. We finally got both boys back to sleep around 3am. There is no need to go into detail about how 4 hours of screaming children can put you on edge. Anyway, the next morning it was clear that Jacob was sick and since Joseph was still asleep, we kept the boys home from church..
We got home last night about midnight then about 3am Joseph started crying and coughing. At first it just seemed like it was in my dream. When I finally woke up of course I went in to check on him and when I did he really scared me. He breathing was raspy and shallow, and seemed really forced. His cough sounded like a seal bark so I brought him into our room where he settled down and his breathing became a little more normal but still kind of shallow. Not knowing what else to do I put a big pot of water on the stove and just let it boil, like a home made humidifier. After an hour or so, his breathing was once again normal and after another hour he fell asleep again. Whew, what a night!

That sounds like so much fun, except the boys getting sick part. If it is a barking cough it might be croup. If it keeps up, the doctor can give him a steroid shot that will help it heal sooner. Hope he is better soon.

There is nothing like "life on a farm"...Your dad's and my dream...This is what family is all about...I am truly sorry...however...over the health of Joseph...We will start working on it...as soon as possible...

Hi Sarah! It looks like you are having fun. I just saw your blog on facebook. It also sounds like your son had croup. My Micah gets that every once in a while. You can take them into a steamy bathroom too!
