Oh, the Adventures Never End

You turn you back for a second, because a second is all it takes, and wham! You have a whole new mess, just for you.
Today, Joseph was ever so kind to push a chair over to the cupboard and taking the box of baking soda in one hand he poured a whole lot of pepper and sugar into the box with his other hand. I guess he was just trying to make more room in the cupboard by condensing containers.
I always thought Joseph's sixth sense for sweets was amazing, but Jacob's sixth sense is much more impressive. He has the most amazing knack for finding toilet paper or paper towels. Somehow, no matter how many times the bathroom doors are securely closed, I manage to find him running around the apartment, leaving a long trail of fluffy white paper, or sitting calming pulling off little pieces and eating them as if he was sampling a great delicacy, it amazing!
But of course, Savannah is a big girl now and can do things for herself! The kids were all in the bathtub, fighting as usual so I stepped into the kitchen for a minute. Next thing I see is Savannah walking out all snuggled up in her towel. I didn't think anything of it at first, until I remembered that all the kids towels had been hanging on top of the shower rod. So, Savannah had successfully retrieved hers while letting the other two towels fall into the bathtub. By the time I figured that out and made it to the bathroom, the boys had already done me the great honor of creating an indoor pool out of the bathroom floor by throwing the towels out of the tub, then pulling them back in... and throwing them out again. As I proceeded to wade across the floor to clean up the great lake, it occurred to me how odd it was that I have had to wade though my house several times before. (see Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk) Kids are amazing, truly amazing.

Wow. I start to be surprised at the mess/havoc capabilities of little children, but then stories like these remind me of when I grew up. We 7 (at the time) kids must have given my parents so much grief what with 2 or 3 broken sinks, broken mirrors, the shattered window in the screen door, the cat in the dryer with cookies and milk... I guess the positive outcome in all these is that even though they are messes (and often costly in my family!), the children are still somehow safe (and alive) afterwards! Good job with your patience and positivity! :-)

Wow, Serene! Congrats on being able to re-tell the story in a calm, patient, and humorous way. All these stories make me so anxious to have my own kids! ;)

Oh man, the joy never ends does it?! It's amazing how kids can totally infuriate you and bring so much joy at the same time.

Reading your posts makes me laugh so hard. I completely relate! You either laugh or cry. That's how it is with kids.
